Secret Note From Epstein’s Jail Cellmate After Suspected Suicide Attempt Finally Unsealed
Years after Jeffrey Epstein’s first suspected suicide attempt, a cryptic note allegedly found by his cellmate has been made public. The note hints at Epstein’s mindset days before his death, raising fresh questions about what really happened inside the Manhattan jail.
A note that Jeffrey Epstein’s former cellmate claimed to have found after the financier’s first suspected suicide attempt in July 2019 was released this week, shedding new light on Epstein’s final days behind bars.
Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer serving life for multiple murders, said he discovered the note tucked inside a book shortly after Epstein was found with a bedsheet around his neck in their shared Manhattan federal jail cell. The note, which had been sealed and locked away as part of an unrelated legal dispute, was unsealed by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas following a request from The New York Times.
The brief, difficult-to-decipher note reads in part: “They investigated me for month — found nothing!!!” and “It is a treat to be able to choose the time to say goodbye.” It ends with the underlined words “NO FUN” and “NOT WORTH IT!!” The author of the note remains unknown, and it was never mentioned in official government investigations into Epstein’s death.
Epstein’s July 23, 2019, suicide attempt left him with visible neck injuries and triggered a 31-hour suicide watch before he was downgraded to psychiatric observation. Jail records show Epstein denied any suicidal intent, citing religious beliefs and calling himself a “coward” who disliked pain. He also told jail staff he had no issues with Tartaglione, who said their conversations were minimal.
Epstein and Tartaglione shared a cell for about two weeks after Epstein’s July 6 arrest on sex trafficking charges. Tartaglione was later convicted of killing four men and is currently incarcerated in California. He has petitioned former President Donald Trump for a pardon.
Epstein died by suicide on August 10, 2019, in the same jail, with authorities blaming a series of jail staff failures for the lapse in security. At the time of his death, officials found a different handwritten note in Epstein’s cell listing grievances about jail conditions, not a suicide note.
The release of this newly revealed note adds another piece to the puzzle of Epstein’s troubled final days and the murky circumstances surrounding his death. It underscores the ongoing failures and cover-ups that have plagued investigations into one of the most high-profile deaths in recent history.
