Senators Warren and Wyden Demand Answers From FHFA Director Bill Pulte Over Suspicious Charity Donation Linked to Trump
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden have called out Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, over a $65,000 donation from his charity that may have been funneled to a Trump-linked entity disguised as a nonprofit. The senators warn this could be an illegal scheme to covertly support Donald Trump, demanding a full explanation amid ongoing investigations into Pulte’s politically charged conduct.
Bill Pulte, the embattled director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), is facing fresh scrutiny after Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden sent him a sharp letter demanding answers about a suspicious donation from his charity, Team Pulte. The $65,000 gift went to an organization called “One World Love LLC,” which Pulte’s charity claims is a nonprofit helping underserved communities. But digging by Mother Jones reveals One World Love is not a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit at all. Instead, it appears to be a corporate entity with direct ties to the law firm that represented Donald Trump during his post-2020 election fraud claims and January 6 legal battles.
The senators’ letter highlights glaring inconsistencies in Team Pulte’s tax filings. The nonprofit’s tax ID number doesn’t exist in IRS records, and the address listed for One World Love is actually an unrelated apartment building. Meanwhile, the address tied to the corporate entity is connected to the Binnall Law Group, known for racking up millions in legal fees for Trump’s reelection efforts. Warren and Wyden warn that these discrepancies raise “serious concerns” that Pulte may have illegally funneled charity money to support Trump’s political operations, a violation of federal tax laws that prohibit charities from benefiting private individuals.
This demand for transparency comes amid a pattern of Pulte weaponizing his federal position to target Trump’s political enemies. Under his leadership, FHFA has referred multiple investigations to the Justice Department against figures like Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, Senator Adam Schiff, and Representative Eric Swalwell — all based on dubious allegations tied to mortgage applications. While these cases have largely collapsed, Pulte has continued pushing for probes, including new attempts to investigate Cook.
Meanwhile, Pulte himself is under investigation. The FHFA inspector general, federal prosecutors, and the Government Accountability Office are all reportedly examining whether he misused his office to access sensitive mortgage data on Trump’s opponents. Warren and Wyden’s letter demanding clarification on the charity donation adds to mounting questions about Pulte’s ethics and the legitimacy of his aggressive, politically motivated actions.
Neither Pulte nor Team Pulte’s head Joshua Hinkle have responded to requests for comment. But with federal probes and congressional inquiries closing in, Pulte’s tenure at FHFA looks increasingly precarious. His efforts to weaponize a traditionally low-profile agency to serve Trump’s agenda have drawn bipartisan alarm — and now, potentially, legal jeopardy.
At a time when democratic norms and government accountability are under attack, the Pulte story is a stark reminder that corruption and abuse of power can hide behind charitable facades. We will keep tracking this developing scandal and demand the truth be laid bare.
