Spectator Ejected After Disrupting World Snooker Final, Echoing Epstein Files Protest
A World Snooker Championship final between Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize was interrupted when a female spectator was forcibly removed for shouting during play, marking the second disruption linked to Epstein Files protests at the event. The match ended the opening session tied 4-4, but the incident spotlights growing unrest among fans demanding accountability beyond the snooker table.
The World Snooker Championship final at the Crucible got off to a turbulent start when a female spectator was ejected for shouting out during the third frame of the match between Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize. Security swiftly removed the protester after the disruption, with referee Rob Spencer later preventing her from re-entering the arena.
This incident echoed a similar disruption during the semi-final between Wu Yize and Mark Allen, where another audience member was removed after shouting "never forget the Epstein files." These protests, unusual for a snooker event, underscore a growing public demand for transparency and justice related to the Epstein scandal—a topic that has reverberated far beyond its original context.
The referee also had to admonish the crowd for using mobile phones during play, warning spectators to switch devices off or face ejection. Murphy himself appeared rattled by a phone ringing mid-frame, throwing down his rest in frustration.
On the table, Wu Yize started strong, racing to a 3-0 lead against the 2005 world champion Murphy. But Murphy regained his composure, leveling the session at 4-4 with impressive breaks of 85, 90, 77, and a century (109), exposing cracks in Wu’s game. Wu rallied in the final frame, but the opening session ended evenly poised.
While the snooker action was intense, the disruptions brought a political edge to the sporting event. The Epstein files—unsealed documents revealing powerful enablers and systemic cover-ups—have galvanized activists and ordinary citizens alike. Their presence at a traditionally apolitical event signals the persistent demand for accountability in all corners of public life.
This clash of sport and protest at the Crucible is a reminder: no arena is immune from the calls for justice and transparency that define our times.
