A 74-year-old Spokane resident, Robert Martindale, appeared Monday in Spokane Superior Court after being arrested for allegedly making threats against Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate owned by former President Donald Trump. The arrest follows a joint investigation after threatening phone calls were made to The Villages, Florida, and Mar-a-Lago.

According to Spokane police, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in Florida contacted Spokane authorities on May 2, 2026, after tracing the threatening calls back to Martindale’s phone number. When Spokane officers reached out to Martindale, they confirmed the number matched the one used to make the calls earlier that day.

Martindale reportedly told officers, “It’s not a threat, but a warning,” though police arrested him on suspicion of threats to bomb or injure property. He was booked into Spokane County Jail with bond set at $10,000. Both prosecution and defense attorneys noted Martindale’s lack of a prior criminal record during his first court appearance. His arraignment is scheduled for May 7.

This incident underscores the persistent security risks faced by Trump’s properties, especially Mar-a-Lago, which has been a focal point for both physical threats and investigations into the former president’s conduct. Threats against political figures and their residences remain a serious concern, demanding vigilant law enforcement response.

As investigations continue, this case adds to the broader pattern of heightened tensions and risks linked to Trump’s post-presidential activities and properties. We will keep tracking developments as they unfold.
