Support for the Trump administration’s war on Iran is eroding among “connected” American Jews — those with ties to Jewish institutions — according to a recent poll by the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI). The survey found that initial support of 68% in early March dropped to 60% just after President Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire on April 8.

The decline is even more pronounced among respondents identifying as “leaning liberal,” where support plunged from 57% to a mere 42%. Meanwhile, opposition to the war among this group has surged, with about one-third now opposing the conflict, up from 26% at the war’s outset. Only 14% of respondents believed the war had achieved “major success,” signaling widespread disillusionment.

JPPI’s poll of 806 American Jews, conducted April 15-19, draws from a panel skewed toward more institutionally connected Jews—those affiliated with denominations, less likely to be intermarried, and more likely to have lived in Israel—meaning these results reflect the views of a politically engaged segment rather than the broader Jewish population. Other polls during the conflict found most American Jews opposed the US military campaign against Iran.

The timing of this shift matters. Trump’s war has faced mounting public disapproval amid soaring oil prices and no clear victories. Despite repeatedly extending the ceasefire, Trump has failed to secure the major Iranian concessions he demanded. His recent remarks reveal a dangerous indecision: weighing a diplomatic deal against a return to full-scale war, threatening to “blast the hell out of them and finish them forever.”

Iranian officials expect fighting to resume, while Israeli military readiness remains high. The core dispute revolves around Iran’s nuclear program. Iran has offered a five-year halt to enrichment, but Trump demands a 20-year pause—longer than the 15-year deal he abandoned in 2018. Since then, Iran has accelerated enrichment, stockpiling the most nuclear material in its history, much of it buried under sites targeted by US strikes.

This poll’s findings expose cracks in the base of support for Trump’s reckless foreign adventurism, highlighting growing skepticism among American Jews who once backed the war. The broader public should heed this warning: Trump’s Iran war risks dragging the US into prolonged conflict with no clear endgame, while fueling domestic turmoil and economic pain.

We will keep tracking how this war and its fallout unfold, holding Trump accountable for the chaos he’s unleashed abroad and at home.
