Trump Administration Brands Transgender People a National Security Threat, Equating Them with Terrorists

The Trump administration’s new counterterrorism strategy shockingly labels transgender individuals alongside drug cartels and Islamic militants as top national security threats. This baseless and dangerous rhetoric fuels anti-trans violence and echoes the authoritarian blueprint of Project 2025 to erase LGBTQ rights.

Trump Administration Brands Transgender People a National Security Threat, Equating Them with Terrorists

The Trump administration has escalated its war on transgender people by officially declaring them a national security threat on par with violent extremists and drug cartels. A newly published White House “counterterrorism strategy” singles out “radically pro-transgender” groups as violent secular political enemies, promising to “map their ties” and use law enforcement tools to “cripple them operationally.”

This document absurdly links the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to “extreme transgender ideologies,” despite no credible evidence that the alleged killer’s transgender roommate motivated the crime. The claim is part of a broader pattern where Trump and his evangelical base weaponize anti-trans rhetoric to demonize an entire community.

The Trans Journalists Association calls out the administration’s use of the catchphrase “transgender ideology” as a deliberately vague smear designed to paint transgender identity as a dangerous political agenda rather than an innate human experience. This language is a cornerstone of Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s authoritarian blueprint that aims to restrict gender and sexual identity rights and roll back protections for marginalized groups.

Since Trump’s return to power, the administration has relentlessly attacked transgender Americans through healthcare restrictions, discrimination rollbacks, erasure of LGBTQ-inclusive data, and bans on access to public spaces. These actions coincide with false claims that transgender people are disproportionately responsible for mass shootings or violent crimes — claims repeatedly debunked by experts and advocacy groups.

International watchdogs are sounding the alarm. The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention warns that the United States is in the early to middle stages of a genocidal process against transgender people. The institute highlights the rapid increase in anti-trans legislation and the administration’s framing of transgender individuals as an existential threat to the nation’s spiritual health and security.

This brazen targeting of transgender people as enemies of the state is not just hateful rhetoric — it is a dangerous escalation that threatens lives and undermines the fundamental rights and dignity of millions of Americans. As Trump’s authoritarian agenda unfolds, accountability and resistance have never been more urgent.
