On Friday, a three-judge panel made up entirely of Republican appointees—including two judges installed by Donald Trump—issued a ruling that bars abortion providers from prescribing mifepristone via telemedicine or mailing it to patients. This decision effectively halts a Biden administration policy that had expanded access to this FDA-approved medication, which has been safely used for decades.

The ruling is not just a local setback; it’s part of a coordinated, nationwide effort led by Republican attorneys general to curtail abortion access across the country. Democrats, led by DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin, condemned the move, calling it a direct continuation of Trump’s pledge to “kill Roe v. Wade” and an outright assault on women’s lives. “Republicans across the country are mounting a full-blown assault on reproductive healthcare and putting women’s lives at risk,” Boeglin said. “Democrats will stand with the majority of Americans who believe that the people, not politicians, should make their own medical decisions.”
