Trump Border Czar Doubles Down on Mass Deportations Despite Public Backlash

At a recent border security conference in Phoenix, President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, made it clear: the administration is not backing down on its aggressive immigration enforcement. Despite pulling back from high-profile city raids that sparked protests, the government is pressing ahead with a massive hiring spree, adding 10,000 new deportation officers to the Department of Homeland Security’s ranks.

“We’re going to enforce the laws of this country without apology,” Homan declared, underscoring the administration’s unyielding commitment to removing unauthorized immigrants from the U.S. interior. This comes even after the January shootings by DHS officers in Minneapolis, which temporarily cooled public immigration raids.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott confirmed that border officers continue to play a crucial role in interior enforcement, swiftly passing interview data to ICE agents who then conduct follow-up arrests far from the border. Scott described this process as “putting that thing on steroids,” highlighting the increased efficiency and coordination between agencies.

Homan boasted that ICE and Border Patrol have made some 800,000 removals, though the government has been opaque about how these numbers are calculated, leaving journalists and researchers unable to verify the claims.
