Trump Border Czar Vows No Letup in Mass Deportations Despite Public Backlash
The Trump administration is doubling down on aggressive immigration enforcement, hiring 10,000 new deportation officers and continuing mass removals inside the U.S. Interior. Border czar Tom Homan insists the crackdown will proceed “without apology,” even as public raids have become less visible following deadly DHS shootings.
The Trump administration is making it crystal clear: it will not back down on its hardline immigration crackdown. Speaking at a border security conference in Phoenix, border czar Tom Homan announced plans to hire 10,000 new deportation officers to ramp up efforts to remove unauthorized immigrants from the U.S. interior. “We’re going to enforce the laws of this country without apology,” Homan declared, signaling that the administration’s mass deportation agenda remains fully intact despite a lower profile in public arrests.
This shift comes after the January shootings of two U.S. citizens by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) law enforcement in Minneapolis, which forced the administration to scale back the highly visible immigration raids that had sparked widespread protests. Yet, as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott recently confirmed, border officers continue to collaborate closely with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to conduct arrests away from the border, often acting on real-time intelligence shared within hours.
“In many cases now, we’re doing follow-up arrests at houses way away from the southwest border,” Scott told the Washington Examiner. “We are putting that thing on steroids.” This intensified coordination has allowed the administration to maintain a steady pace of removals while avoiding the public backlash that accompanied earlier raids.
Homan boasted that ICE and Border Patrol have collectively made some 800,000 removals, though the government has not published detailed, transparent data to verify these figures. The administration’s goal reportedly remains 1 million deportations annually, a staggering number that underscores its commitment to aggressive enforcement.
The border czar framed the crackdown as a humanitarian effort, arguing that deterring illegal crossings saves lives by reducing migrant deaths and abuses along dangerous routes. “We’re saving thousands of lives,” Homan claimed, dismissing criticism from immigrant advocates who warn that militarized enforcement pushes migrants into more remote, perilous areas.
Despite record-high illegal border crossings during the Biden administration, Homan declared the southern border “more secure than it has ever been.” He emphasized that individuals apprehended are now detained or returned rather than released into the country, signaling a zero-tolerance approach that extends to anyone found without authorization, regardless of how long they have lived in the U.S.
“I don’t care how long you’ve been here,” Homan said bluntly, reaffirming the administration’s ruthless stance.
This relentless pursuit of deportations comes amidst growing concerns over the human cost of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, the opacity of enforcement data, and the broader assault on immigrant communities. While the public face of immigration raids may have softened, the machinery of mass deportation is accelerating behind the scenes, with little accountability or transparency.
The administration’s refusal to relent on immigration arrests is a stark reminder that beneath the rhetoric of border security lies an unforgiving campaign that disrupts lives, separates families, and fuels a climate of fear — all in the name of enforcement without apology.
