Trump Budget Prioritizes War Over Basic Human Needs—Congress Must Say No
While millions of Americans struggle for healthcare, housing, and education, the Trump administration’s budget proposal pours a staggering $1.5 trillion into the military. It also ramps up funding for immigration detention and deportation, deepening the crisis. We need Congress to reject this immoral spending spree and invest in the communities that actually need help.
The Trump administration’s proposed budget is a blueprint for misplaced priorities and cruelty. Instead of addressing the urgent needs of millions of Americans who lack access to healthcare, stable housing, and quality education, the president wants to funnel an unprecedented $1.5 trillion into the military. This includes billions more for immigration detention and deportation—a brutal expansion of ICE’s enforcement powers that tears families apart and sows fear in communities.
The American Friends Service Committee, among other advocacy groups, is sounding the alarm. In a recent call to action, they emphasize that a wealthy nation like the United States should ensure all its people can thrive. Yet the budget does the opposite: it slashes essential social programs while fueling endless war and authoritarian immigration policies.
This budget is not just a numbers game. It reflects a fundamental choice by the administration to prioritize weapons and militarism over human dignity. It means more ICE raids that target vulnerable immigrant communities, more resources spent on conflict abroad rather than on schools and hospitals at home.
Congress holds the power to stop this. Lawmakers must reject funding that expands militarism and instead invest in healthcare, housing, education, and other vital services. The communities they represent deserve leaders who fight for their well-being, not for endless war and harsh enforcement.
The message is clear: fund human needs, not war. The time to act is now.
