Trump Claims Ceasefire Holds in Iran War Despite Iranian Strikes on UAE

The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is under severe strain as Iran launched missile and drone strikes on the United Arab Emirates’ oil infrastructure earlier this week. The UAE, a close US ally and strategic partner in the Gulf, reported significant damage and activated emergency protocols following the attacks, marking the heaviest Iranian assault since the ceasefire began last month.

Despite these provocations, US officials maintain the ceasefire is still in effect. President Donald Trump dismissed the attacks as “little skirmishes,” claiming Iran’s military capacity has been reduced to “peashooters.” At a White House event, Trump insisted Iran “wants to make a deal” but accused Tehran of “playing games.” He warned that any further Iranian aggression would be met with a “devastating” response, though he did not specify what that would entail.

Iran has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the UAE strikes but warned of a “crushing response” if the UAE takes military action against it. The Gulf state’s oil facilities remain a prime target due to their proximity and strategic importance, threatening global oil supplies that transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan is mediating talks between Washington and Tehran, aiming for a “win-win” peace agreement. However, progress remains slow, with only one round of direct negotiations held so far. European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, are pushing for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of hostilities, emphasizing the critical need for freedom of navigation in this vital oil chokepoint.

This ongoing conflict highlights Trump’s pattern of using foreign military tensions to distract from domestic scandals and consolidate power. While Trump publicly downplays Iran’s capabilities, his administration continues to escalate military presence and rhetoric in the region. The risk of a wider war remains high, underscoring the urgent need for genuine diplomacy and accountability.
