Trump Exploits Giuliani’s Medical Crisis to Launch Baseless Attack on Democrats

Donald Trump wasted no time turning Rudy Giuliani’s serious medical emergency into a political circus. On Sunday, as news broke that Giuliani, the former New York mayor and Trump’s once-trusted personal lawyer, was in critical condition at a Florida hospital, Trump’s response was less about concern and more about launching an unhinged attack on Democrats.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump hailed Giuliani as “a True Warrior” and “the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR,” but quickly pivoted to blaming “Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL” for treating Giuliani “so badly” and for supposedly “cheating on the Elections.” Trump claimed Democrats fabricated stories and did “anything possible to destroy our Nation,” linking these accusations directly to Giuliani’s health crisis with a cynical “So sad!”

The exact reasons for Giuliani’s hospitalization remain unclear. Yet Trump’s attempt to politicize his friend’s condition is part of a broader pattern of deflecting from mounting legal and political troubles by casting Democrats as enemies. Giuliani, 81, was once a central figure in Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, spreading baseless claims that the election was stolen. His role in these efforts led to his disbarment in New York and Washington, D.C., multiple lawsuits, and criminal charges.

Among the legal fallout, a jury awarded $148 million to two Georgia poll workers defamed by Giuliani’s false claims, though he later settled the case. Despite this, Trump has continued to reward Giuliani’s loyalty. Last November, Trump issued him a “full, complete, and unconditional” pardon. He also announced plans to bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Giuliani, following a serious car accident that left Giuliani with multiple injuries.

Giuliani’s fall from grace—from Trump’s personal lawyer and “Stop the Steal” rally figurehead to a disbarred and embattled defendant—has been dramatic. Yet Trump’s latest move shows he remains undeterred in using Giuliani as a political prop, weaponizing even his friend’s medical crisis to perpetuate conspiracy theories and demonize political opponents.
