President Donald Trump’s May 1 speech at the Forum Club in West Palm Beach did not go unchallenged. Around 150 protesters braved near-90 degree heat and rush-hour traffic to voice their opposition outside the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, where Trump addressed the political and public affairs group.

The crowd carried American flags and signs condemning Trump’s warmongering stance on Iran, his harsh immigration enforcement policies targeting undocumented immigrants, and his administration’s slow-walking of the Jeffrey Epstein files — a glaring example of the deep corruption and cover-ups that continue to plague his circle. One protester even called out the Forum Club, founded in 1976 and known as a nonpartisan platform, for breaking precedent by hosting a sitting president with such a toxic record.

Protesters from Palm Beach Indivisibles and other groups shouted slogans and held banners reading “CORRUPT” and “Swamp Monsters,” while others displayed photos linking Trump to Epstein, underscoring the persistent scandal that haunts the former president. The protestors’ determination was clear despite the uncomfortable conditions and a late weekday start time.

Security was tight, reflecting the heightened threat environment after a recent attack on Trump at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Concrete barriers and SWAT teams were deployed around the venue, but the protesters remained undeterred.

Locals like Barkley Garnsey and the Stepongzi couple traveled significant distances to make their voices heard, emphasizing the urgent need for change and accountability. Though some doubted Trump would see the protests in person, they expressed hope he might catch the dissent on TV, where the fight for democracy and transparency continues.

This demonstration is yet another sign that Trump’s grip on power is contested not just nationally but right in his own backyard. The protesters’ message is clear: the corruption, authoritarianism, and abuses of power linked to his administration will not be ignored or forgotten.
