Trump Hits The Villages Today, Peddling Tax Myths to Florida Seniors

Donald Trump is spending the weekend in Florida, making a calculated visit to The Villages, a sprawling retirement community known for its political influence among seniors. Scheduled to speak at The Villages Charter School at 3 p.m. today, May 1, Trump aims to rally support by touting his fight against taxes on Social Security and tips—a claim that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.

The Florida GOP promoted Trump’s speech as focusing on “No Tax on Tips to No Tax on Social Security, putting seniors and workers first.” However, the reality is more complicated. The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” touted by Trump does not eliminate Social Security taxes. Instead, it offers a narrower tax break for seniors, falling far short of the sweeping relief implied in his messaging.

The Villages, home to over 80,000 residents aged 55 and older, is a prime target for Trump’s messaging. It spans three counties and is a political hotspot where senior voters wield significant influence. Crowds of supporters were already gathering at the venue hours before his arrival, underscoring the continued enthusiasm among his base.

After The Villages, Trump will head back to Palm Beach County for a 6:15 p.m. speech at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, held at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. FAA flight restrictions over Palm Beach and Miami confirm his presence in the state through Sunday, May 3.

This weekend’s itinerary also aligns with the ongoing PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, running through May 3, suggesting Trump’s stay is part political, part personal.

Trump’s Florida appearances continue to blend political theater with personal brand promotion, all while pushing narratives that distort the truth on issues critical to seniors and working Americans. The Villages visit is yet another reminder that Trump’s messaging often prioritizes showmanship over substance, especially when courting key voter blocs.
