Trump Mulls Iran’s 14-Point Peace Plan Amid Escalating Threats and Regional Chaos
On day 65 of the US-Iran conflict, Tehran has sent a bold 14-point proposal demanding sanctions relief, troop withdrawals, and an end to hostilities “on all fronts.” Trump says he will review the plan but warns renewed attacks remain possible as tensions spiral, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on high alert and Israel pounding Lebanon.
The war between the United States and Iran has entered its 65th day with no end in sight. Tehran has put forward a comprehensive 14-point peace proposal to Washington, demanding guarantees of nonaggression, lifting of the US naval blockade, release of frozen Iranian assets, and an immediate cessation of the war across all theaters—including Lebanon. The plan notably seeks to postpone nuclear negotiations, a red line for the Trump administration.
President Donald Trump has said he will review Iran’s offer but remains skeptical it will lead to a deal. “If they do something bad, there is a possibility it could happen,” Trump warned, leaving the door open for further military escalation. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it is on standby for renewed conflict, accusing the US of bad faith and dismissing Washington’s calls for a ceasefire extension.
The situation on the ground reflects this dangerous brinkmanship. Iran successfully evaded the US naval blockade to deliver nearly 2 million barrels of crude oil to Asia, while the US pushes ahead with $8.6 billion in arms sales to Gulf allies and Israel. The US is also reportedly forming a new international naval coalition, the Maritime Freedom Construct, aimed at controlling the Strait of Hormuz—a strategic chokepoint Iran has effectively blocked since the war began in late February.
The conflict’s spillover is devastating Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 41 people in a single day despite a fragile ceasefire. Israel has threatened further attacks on a dozen southern Lebanese towns, and its military admitted to striking a Catholic religious site, drawing condemnation amid rising civilian casualties.
Trump’s consideration of Iran’s proposal comes as his administration faces mounting criticism for stoking this regional conflagration while sidelining diplomatic solutions. The war has strained US alliances, with tensions rising so sharply that Trump is contemplating a massive troop withdrawal from Germany. The stakes are high: the longer this war drags on, the more it undermines regional stability and distracts from urgent domestic issues—exactly the kind of chaos authoritarian leaders exploit to consolidate power.
This conflict is not just a distant Middle East crisis. It is a direct consequence of reckless policies and saber-rattling that threaten democracy and global security. The world is watching whether Trump will choose accountability and peace—or double down on war and destruction.
