Trump Pushes Dangerous Iran Escalation While Claiming "Victory"

Despite boasting that the US has "already won" the war with Iran, Trump is reportedly weighing a new wave of military strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure and strategic assets. His continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and threats to Iran risk deepening conflict, disrupting global supplies, and worsening a stalemate with no peace talks in sight.

President Donald Trump is doubling down on a reckless war footing with Iran, claiming the US has "already won" while secretly considering a "final blow" military strike to force Tehran into submission. According to Axios, Trump was briefed by top military commanders on Thursday about options including a swift strike campaign on Iranian infrastructure, seizing control of the Strait of Hormuz to reopen shipping lanes, and even a special forces raid to secure Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

In a recent interview with Newsmax, Trump boasted that the US has destroyed Iran's navy, air force, radar, and leadership, claiming the regime would take 20 years to rebuild if left alone. Yet, he insisted this "victory" is not enough, demanding guarantees that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. This aggressive stance comes amid a continuing US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, which Iran also blocks in retaliation.

The conflict remains locked in a dangerous stalemate. Peace talks have stalled since mid-April, with Iran demanding an end to the US blockade as a precondition for negotiations, while Washington refuses to lift restrictions on international shipping. Iran has warned of "long and painful strikes" if the US launches attacks, raising the specter of a wider regional war.

Beyond the immediate military threat, the ongoing US-Iran conflict is already reverberating globally. The CEO of the world’s largest fertilizer company, Yara International, warned that disruptions from the war risk triggering a "global auction" for fertilizer supplies. This could price out poorer countries, particularly in Africa, threatening food security in vulnerable regions.

Trump’s posturing and military brinkmanship reveal a disturbing pattern: using foreign conflict to distract from domestic scandals and consolidate power at home. His unhinged insistence on escalating the war with Iran — even as he claims victory — exposes the dangerous disconnect between rhetoric and reality. The consequences of this gamble threaten not only Middle East stability but global food supplies and democratic accountability.

We must hold this administration accountable for reckless warmongering that puts American lives and global security at risk. There is no "bigger margin" to win when the cost is endless conflict and suffering.
