Trump Threatens “Much Higher Level” Bombing of Iran Amid Tentative Peace Talks

President Donald Trump is playing a dangerous game with Iran, publicly threatening to escalate military attacks “at a much higher level and intensity” if Tehran does not accept a peace deal currently under negotiation. This comes even as multiple reports suggest Washington and Tehran are nearing a memorandum of understanding to end the war and open the vital Strait of Hormuz to all shipping.

On Truth Social, Trump declared that Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. military offensive, “will be at an end” if Iran agrees to the deal — a claim steeped in skepticism given his history of erratic foreign policy. He added ominously, “if they don’t agree, the bombing starts,” signaling a readiness to intensify violence rather than pursue diplomacy.

Axios reported that the deal under discussion involves Iran agreeing to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, the U.S. lifting sanctions, and both sides easing controls on shipping through the Gulf of Oman. Despite this progress, the fragile ceasefire has already been punctured by Iranian attacks on U.S. forces and retaliatory strikes on Iranian vessels.

Trump’s threats undermine these delicate negotiations and risk dragging the region back toward open conflict. At the same time, his Oval Office boasts about meetings with oil executives from Exxon Mobil and Chevron hint at economic motives behind the war, as these companies eye access to Iranian and Venezuelan oil reserves.

Iranian officials maintain cautious optimism but stress the need for “good faith” negotiations free from coercion or deception. Tehran’s foreign minister reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to national sovereignty and strategic partnerships with allies like China, signaling resistance to U.S. pressure.

This standoff exposes the Trump administration’s pattern of using foreign conflict as a distraction from domestic scandals and a tool to consolidate power. The stakes are high: renewed bombing would deepen global instability, exacerbate the energy crisis, and further erode diplomatic norms.

We will keep tracking this story as it develops, holding power accountable for threats that jeopardize peace and global security.
