Surrounded by schoolchildren, Trump mixed conspiracy theories with offensive rhetoric, exposing once again his disregard for truth and decency in front of impressionable kids.

Trump Uses White House Kids Event to Push Lies and Transphobic Rants

Donald Trump turned what should have been a straightforward White House event celebrating the return of the Presidential Fitness Test Award into a disturbing spectacle of misinformation and bigotry. Surrounded by schoolchildren in the Oval Office and later on the White House lawn, the 79-year-old president delivered a series of deeply inappropriate comments that ranged from false claims about Iran to transphobic attacks and baseless election conspiracy theories.

The event quickly devolved as Trump spoke at length about “transgender mutilization of children,” a phrase loaded with hostility and fearmongering. When talking to a boy interested in powerlifting, Trump launched into a false narrative about a transgender athlete breaking longstanding records by an implausible margin. The athlete in question, Canadian powerlifter Anne Andres, had transitioned over two decades ago and had only recently taken up the sport. Contrary to Trump’s claims, the records were not 18 years old, nor was the margin of victory anywhere near what he asserted.

Trump’s transphobic comments were not isolated. He repeatedly raised politically charged and inaccurate assertions about transgender individuals, weaponizing misinformation to stoke division in front of children who appeared visibly uncomfortable and disengaged.

The president also veered into dangerous territory discussing Iran. He falsely claimed that 42,000 unarmed protesters were killed last month, a figure unsupported by any credible source. Trump’s graphic description of sniper attacks on peaceful demonstrators was both misleading and unnecessarily violent for a children’s event. His bizarre imitation of missile defense operators and offhand remarks about “lunatics” in Iran underscored his penchant for theatrics over substance.

Of course, Trump could not resist repeating his long-debunked claims that the 2020 election was “rigged.” He insisted to the children that he won “in a landslide,” fabricating numbers about winning swing states, the popular vote, and counties. The kids around him were seen yawning and fidgeting, a silent testament to the disconnect between Trump’s fantasy and reality.

This event is yet another example of Trump using public platforms—even those involving children—to spread lies, stoke division, and push a dangerous agenda. His willingness to weaponize misinformation in front of young audiences highlights the urgent need for accountability and resistance against the corrosive influence of his administration.
