Trump’s Latest Executive Order Is a Full-Frontal Attack on Mail Voting — Congress Must Stop It

Donald Trump’s latest executive order targets one of the most accessible and secure ways Americans vote: mail-in ballots. This move is not about election integrity — it is a blatant attempt to scare people away from voting by mail and rig the system in Trump’s favor.

The order demands the U.S. Postal Service enforce Trump’s voter suppression agenda, threatening states with the loss of federal funds or even criminal charges if they refuse to comply. This is a dangerous overreach that weaponizes a critical public institution to undermine democracy.

Mail-in voting is proven safe and essential, especially for millions who rely on it to cast their ballots. Ironically, Trump himself has used mail voting for years, exposing the hypocrisy of his claim that it is vulnerable to fraud.

Common Cause has filed a lawsuit to block this order, and Sen. Alex Padilla has introduced the Absentee and Mail Voter Protection Act to reverse it. But Congress must act swiftly before Trump’s plan can silence voters and tilt elections.

This is about more than just one election — it is about protecting the fundamental right to vote against authoritarian manipulation. We cannot let Trump pick and choose who gets to participate in our democracy. The time to act is now.
