President Donald Trump’s second term has been a whirlwind of bold policy shifts aimed at “Making America Great Again.” From declaring English the official language to expanding Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) reach into sensitive places like schools and hospitals, the administration has doubled down on a hardline agenda. But beneath the slogans lies a troubling pattern: policies that claim to protect Americans too often end up serving political theater and corporate interests rather than the public good.

Take tariffs. Trump slapped a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, claiming it would shield American workers and fight the fentanyl crisis. Yet economic studies reveal the real cost lands squarely on American consumers and businesses, who face higher prices for everyday goods. This isn’t economic strength—it’s a hidden tax on the people Trump claims to champion.

Immigration enforcement has become even more draconian. By erasing longstanding limits on where ICE can arrest people, the administration has injected fear into communities, including children and patients in hospitals. This approach prioritizes intimidation over decency, ignoring the humanitarian responsibilities America should uphold.

Environmental policy has also taken a hit. Withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement and pushing legislation that favors corporations over climate investments sacrifices future generations for short-term economic relief. Experts warn this tradeoff threatens long-term sustainability and economic stability.

On foreign policy, Trump’s escalated military strikes abroad raise alarms about expanding conflicts and human costs. While framed as protecting American interests, the growing reliance on force risks dragging the country into endless wars.

Supporters tout consistency with campaign promises, but the question remains: are these policies truly making America better? When families face rising costs, vulnerable communities live in fear, and the environment is sidelined, it’s clear the “greatness” Trump champions often comes at their expense.
