US Judge Releases Purported Jeffrey Epstein Suicide Note Amid Lingering Questions

A US District Judge in New York has made public a document purported to be a suicide note from Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019. The note was submitted as evidence in the criminal case of Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer and convicted murderer who shared a cell with Epstein for about two weeks in July 2019.

Judge Kenneth Karas did not verify the note’s authenticity but ruled it was a judicial document that the public has a right to access. The handwritten note, scribbled on a yellow legal pad, contains Epstein’s defiant message: “They investigated me for month – Found NOTHING!!! So 15 year old charges resulted.” It also reads, “It is a treat to be able to choose ones time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do – Burst out cryin!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!”

Tartaglione, currently serving multiple life sentences, had previously mentioned the note in a podcast interview. According to him, the note was hidden inside a book in their shared cell. Epstein died several weeks later, with authorities ruling his death a suicide. However, the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s demise have fueled decades of conspiracy theories and calls for transparency.

The note came to light after a New York Times report highlighted that federal investigators never saw this document, and it was not included in the millions of Epstein-related files released by the Department of Justice. The Times formally requested the note’s release, which Judge Karas granted.

Epstein’s death and his vast network of powerful friends — including billionaires, celebrities, and politicians — remain a source of intense scrutiny. Last year, Congress passed a rare bipartisan law compelling the Justice Department to release all files related to Epstein’s investigation. President Donald Trump, who admitted to knowing Epstein, initially opposed the bill but eventually signed it into law. Despite the flood of documents, lawmakers continue to question whether the full truth is being revealed.

The ongoing investigations have drawn in high-profile figures. Lawmakers have subpoenaed current and former officials, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, to testify. Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently faced congressional questioning over his undisclosed ties to Epstein, contradicting his prior claims of severing contact in 2005.

While connections to Epstein do not automatically imply criminal wrongdoing, the shadow cast by Epstein’s crimes and death continues to implicate powerful individuals worldwide. Some, like Britain’s Prince Andrew and former ambassador Peter Mandelson, have faced charges abroad, but no US criminal charges have been brought against Epstein’s associates.
