Vice President JD Vance addresses affordability concerns in visit to Wisconsin - Spectrum News
Vice President JD Vance visited Plover, Wisconsin, to address affordability concerns and highlight the administration's efforts to reduce living costs, despite polls indicating high public concern over inflation. He emphasized the need for ongoing policies to improve Americans' quality of life and endorsed local Republican candidates, including Rep. Derrick Van Orden for reelection and Tom Tiffany for governor. The event took place in the congressional district of Rep. Van Orden, coinciding with a week of political messaging following President Trump's State of the Union address.
PLOVER, Wis. — Just days after President Trump's State of the Union address, the vice president is taking the administration's message on the road.
Pointe Precision in the Village of Plover was the site for Vice President JD Vance’s remarks Thursday.
Maintenance Supervisor Eric Burling said it was the culmination of a chaotic week for the manufacturer.
“It’s intense, it’s been intense,” Burling said. “We heard about this at the end of last week and it just kind of snowballed after that.”
Burling was among the dozens in attendance for the vice president’s message about the state of the country. Kris Rosenthal brought his family from Wisconsin Rapids to hear the VP firsthand.
“We homeschool and it just teaches our kids things about our government, and it’s a good opportunity,” Rosenthal said.
The event also took place in the congressional district of Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie Du Chien.
Van Orden said it shows how much the president and vice president value the state of Wisconsin.
“It is a microcosm of what has to happen to make America great again,” Van Orden said. “We have to rebuild American manufacturing, and we have to have a robust, thriving agriculture industry; it’s right here.”
The vice president covered several topics in his speech, including the cost of living for everyday Americans. Vance said the Trump administration is working to correct the affordability issues it inherited from the previous administration.
“Hearing the Democrats talk about affordability is like hearing an arsonist complain about a fire; it’s your fault,” Vance said.
While Vance highlighted how the administration has kept costs down, even though this week’s Marquette Law School Poll showed 70% of Wisconsinites are still concerned with the high cost of living.
The VP acknowledged there’s still work to do to ensure the people of Wisconsin can live comfortable lives.
“I think what we have to do every single day is come up with ideas for how to make the American people’s lives better, and that’s what we’re doing,” Vance said. “Some of this is the policies that we put in place take a little bit of time to work their way through the system; some of it is we have to keep working at it.”
As the midterm elections near, Vance urged voters not to give power back to the people he says started the affordability crisis in the first place.
During his remarks, the VP reiterated his full endorsement of Rep. Van Orden as he runs for reelection this fall. He also called on Wisconsin voters to elect Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Minocqua, as the state’s next governor.
