Violent Rhetoric Against Trump Fuels Dangerous Assassination Attempts
Another would-be assassin targeting Donald Trump exposes the deadly consequences of years of violent left-wing rhetoric. From protests to manifestos, the toxic narrative framing Trump as a fascist tyrant has escalated into real threats that the Secret Service barely contained.
At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Donald Trump faced yet another assassination attempt—this time in full view of the Washington press corps. The event, which Trump had avoided for over a decade, drew protesters wielding “Death to Tyrants” signs, channeling John Wilkes Booth’s infamous cry. The would-be shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, left behind a manifesto filled with recycled left-wing conspiracy theories and violent fantasies targeting Trump and his cabinet.
This latest attack fits a disturbing pattern. Allen’s manifesto echoed the same “Trump as Hitler” narrative pushed relentlessly by left-wing elites, celebrities, and politicians. From Kathy Griffin’s beheading stunt to Biden’s boast about putting a bullseye on Trump, the violent rhetoric has been not just tolerated but amplified by those with platforms.
Secret Service agents deserve credit for preventing tragedy, but their job has been made harder by a political climate where protecting former presidents like Trump is de-prioritized. During the Biden administration, security lapses allowed two close-call assassination attempts on Trump. Meanwhile, Democrats like Rep. Bennie Thompson have even tried to strip Trump of Secret Service protection.
The toxic messaging that paints Trump as a fascist monster “to be stopped by any means necessary” has real-world consequences. Assassins do not act in a vacuum—they absorb the signals from social media, celebrities, and political elites who normalize or joke about violence. If this rhetoric had targeted Obama or Biden, those responsible would face serious legal consequences.
Years of escalating left-wing hatred have normalized violent fantasies against Trump. This is not just “politics as usual.” It is a dangerous breakdown of democratic norms and respect for the rule of law. We must hold accountable those who fan the flames of hatred that threaten the safety of public officials and the stability of our democracy.
