Warren Unveils Report Exposing $86 Billion “Trump Fees” Burden on American Families
Elizabeth Warren’s latest Senate Banking Committee report reveals how Trump’s rollbacks and program cuts are secretly tacking over $86 billion in annual costs onto Americans. Families could be paying more than $5,400 extra each year as Trump’s broken promises fuel an affordability crisis hitting the most vulnerable hardest.
More than a year after Donald Trump vowed to slash costs for American families “on day one,” the reality is a brutal hit to household budgets disguised as “Trump Fees.” A new report from the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee’s minority staff, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, lays bare how Trump’s administration has systematically rolled back federal protections, cut critical programs, and abandoned enforcement actions — all adding up to more than $86 billion in extra costs every year for Americans.
These so-called “Trump Fees” stem from a toxic mix of dismantled rules, eliminated tax credits, and gutted government programs. The report shows that a single household could face over $5,400 in additional expenses by 2026, before even factoring in soaring prices for essentials like gas, groceries, and utilities — all trending upward under Trump’s watch.
Warren highlights that the burden falls heaviest on those least able to shoulder it. By 2026, 2.4 million people will lose SNAP benefits, more than 22 million Americans will see health care premiums spike by over $1,000, and over 8 million student loan borrowers will owe an extra $3,500 in interest. This economic squeeze deepens inequality and undermines the very families Trump claimed he would protect.
This report is the latest salvo in Warren’s ongoing probe into Trump’s failure to deliver on affordability. Earlier findings linked inflation-driven price hikes to Trump’s chaotic tariffs, which alone cost families $2,120 more in 2025. Warren has also pressed Amazon and coffee companies to disclose how Trump’s trade policies have driven up prices, underscoring the administration’s role in fueling economic pain.
Trump promised relief but delivered a wrecking ball to programs that kept costs down. Warren’s report is a stark warning: the true cost of Trump’s policies is measured not just in dollars, but in the escalating hardship for millions of American families.
