White House Throws Tantrum After Lawmaker Demands Cognitive Test for Trump
Rep. Jamie Raskin’s call for President Trump’s doctor to submit to a cognitive screening has the White House spinning with insults. Raskin cites alarming erratic behavior and concerns from Trump’s own former allies, demanding transparency on the President’s mental fitness for office.
The White House erupted in defensive fury after Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter demanding that President Donald Trump’s personal physician submit to a cognitive screening. The demand follows growing alarm over Trump’s increasingly erratic public behavior, particularly around the Iran war, which many see as a red flag for mental decline.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded with a childish insult, calling Raskin a "stupid person’s idea of a smart person" and praising Trump’s "sharpness, unmatched energy, and historic accessibility." Ingle also accused Democrats of covering up Joe Biden’s "serious mental and physical decline," a baseless deflection that dodges the real issue: Trump’s fitness to lead.
Raskin’s letter to Capt. Sean Barbabella, the White House physician, highlights serious concerns from across the political spectrum. Even some of Trump’s former allies, like ex-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), have publicly worried that Trump "has gone insane." Meanwhile, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has raised similar questions about President Biden’s mental fitness, underscoring that cognitive health is a legitimate issue for any leader.
"Experts have repeatedly warned that the President has been exhibiting signs consistent with dementia and cognitive decline," Raskin wrote. He pointed to Trump’s recent public outbursts, describing them as “incoherent, volatile, profane, deranged, and threatening.” The letter demands clarity on whether the White House physician still stands by his previous assessment from October 2025 that Trump "continues to demonstrate excellent overall health."
Trump himself has repeatedly denied any cognitive issues, boasting that he "aced" the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test. However, passing the MoCA does not rule out mental decline, and experts caution that such claims are insufficient to assure the public of the President’s mental fitness.
This clash reveals a White House desperate to avoid accountability while the nation watches with growing unease. The stakes are high: the President’s mental state directly impacts the ability to make life-or-death decisions for the country. Transparency here is not optional — it is a necessity for democracy and national security.
