The owners of the Ambassador Bridge, including Matthew Moroun, donated $1 million to the MAGA Inc. super PAC on January 16, shortly before Moroun's meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington. Following this meeting, President Trump publicly stated that he would not allow the Gordie Howe International Bridge to open without compensation from Canada. The New York Times reported that a MAGA Inc. spokesperson denied any connection between the donation and government policy, and it was noted as Moroun's largest federal political contribution on record.
Ambassador Bridge owners made $1-million donation to MAGA fund shortly before Trump threatened Canada: report

The owners of the Ambassador Bridge made a $1-million donation to a fund collecting money to support President Donald Trump less than a month before a meeting with a top administration official to lobby against the opening of Gordie Howe International Bridge, according to a report in the New York Times.
Matthew Moroun, whose family has operated the Ambassador Bridge for many years, made the donation to a super PAC known as MAGA Inc. on Jan. 16, the New York Times report says.
Moroun met in Washington with Howard Lutnick, the secretary of commerce on Feb. 9. After the meeting, according to the Times, Lutnick called Trump. That day, Trump posted on his social media site Truth Social that he would not permit the bridge to open without compensation from Canada.
“I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them,” his post said.
The New York times said a MAGA Inc. spokesperson said there was no connection between the donation and government policy.
The Times said the $1-million donation was larger than any previous federal political donation on record from Moroun.
