MINNEAPOLIS — The Irish-American Celtic punk band, Dropkick Murphys, plans to play a big fundraising show in Minneapolis next month as part of a memorial concert for Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

"Abolish ICE: A Fundraiser For the People" is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, according to a social post by the Quincy, Massachusetts band. The Dropkick Murphys are in town for a ticketed concert Friday night at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul.

The free daytime memorial concert will feature several Minnesota bands such as Wild Colonial Bhoys, Danza Ketzal, Brass Solidarity, Kiss the Tiger, Sophie Hiroko, Chutes, Obi Original, Laamar, and the Shackletons.

The concert will be at the Black Forest Inn's parking lot near East 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, the site of the Alex Pretti memorial.

A wave of protests and public pushback intensified across Minnesota following the federal government's deployment of thousands of officers as part of President Trump's immigration crackdown.

The unrest reached a turning point following a series of fatal shootings involving federal agents, beginning with the Jan. 7 death of Renee Good. Good, a 37-year-old mother, was shot and killed in an incident captured by multiple bystander videos. The footage has led to widespread calls for an independent investigation into the shooting.

The violence continued a week later when another man, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, was shot and injured. Tensions further escalated on Jan. 24, when a third individual, identified as Alex Pretti, was fatally shot. The site of Pretti’s shooting, near 26th and Nicollet, is a growing memorial with flowers, photos and candles.

According to the Dropkick Murphys' social post, the concert will raise money for Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Show Up For Eat Street, the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, and Rent Support for Bancroft Families.
