Fox News viewers are scrutinizing Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt after her visit to the network saw her throw inaccurate claims at the former administration's economic impact

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is facing backlash from viewers of Fox News after she made on air comments that weren't fully accurate, as some are labeling her as a 'paid liar.'

During her visit to Fox, which came just hours before President Trump's first State of the Union address since his return to office, Leavitt was discussing the current state of the economy - a topic Trump has said he plans to cover during the February 24 speech.

While speaking to Fox & Friends, the press secretary said that 'Joe Biden 'created the affordability crisis one year ago.' Viewers immediately found fault with her comment, which struck viewers as bold, considering that the Trump administration previously claimed the affordability crisis was a 'Democratic hoax.'

In December, Trump characterized the affordability crisis, including the high cost of food, housing, and other goods, as a 'hoax' and a 'scam' initiated by Democrats to negatively impact his reputation.

Additionally, viewers noted that it has been over a year since Trump reclaimed his seat in office, which also negates her statements. Lastly, many viewers pointed out that there is no proven evidence that Biden is solely responsible for 'creating' an affordability crisis. While housing costs did soar during his term in office, direct impacts from the pandemic as well as systemic and global factors have proven to have played a major role.

Taking to X, one Fox viewer said, "She is a paid liar."

"I wonder if it'll still be Biden's economy when the next President gets sworn in," another said sarcastically. A third added, "WAIT....i thought AFFORDABILITY was a democrat HOAX. NOW he's going to say it's NOT a HOAX?? i am soooo confused."

One more added a photo of a protest sign reading, "Excuse me while I find a way to blame Biden, Obama, Hilary..."

"It seems to me that the right quickly forgets that most of Biden's presidency was trying to get us out of the mess that trump left during covid and all the issues going on during those last few years. He did the best to get us out of that whole mess, but sure it is all biden," another noted.

Someone else asked, "Wait, didn't Trump said affordability was a hoax?"

"It's projection. When Biden took over the economy from Trump, Trump had left landmines everywhere with policies that took effect or stopped being in effect the year after he left office," yet another added.

Even more echoed sentiments about the 'hoax' comment. "I thought affordability was a democrat hoax?!?" another asked, as someone else said, "How can a 'hoax' be a crisis?"

Later, Trump will address the nation for the first time since his return to the presidency in 2025.

In addition to economic struggles, Trump is expected to touch on immigration, as well as foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran.
