Is Trump's Board of Peace Challenging The United Nations? - Trill

United States President Donald Trump has established the Board of Peace. The Board consists of member countries from around the world, personally invited by Trump himself. The Board of Peace is aimed at rebuilding Gaza. However, as the Board continues to develop, Trump is getting more ambitious with its plans. Expanding the Board of Peace to areas outside of Gaza would make it a global peace organization. Could the growth of Trump’s board of peace rival the United Nations?

What is the Board of Peace?

United States President Donald Trump has created the Board of Peace. Introduced in 2025, the Board of Peace had its first meeting in 2026. This Board was established and approved to work towards peace and the rebuilding of Gaza.

The Board of Peace member countries pledged over $7 billion at the first meeting. The Board is on an invitation-only basis to allow countries to join. Other countries offered troops and future police training for the area. Despite the support and membership of over 20 countries, the board is receiving some backlash.

Trump has stated that the United States will provide $10 billion to the Board of Peace funding. However, he did not mention where this funding was coming from or if Congress had approved this decision. This has caused contention domestically as well as internationally.

Many Americans are worried about the growth of President Trump’s unilateral powers. The ability to create and fund an international peace organization is not a power typically seen in the American Presidency. Trump has also appointed himself chairman without term limits. The chair has all-encompassing authority to veto and approve all decisions. Other leaders, such as the spokesperson of France’s foreign ministry, stated that the “ambiguity” of the board has deterred them from joining.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas is still unresolved, causing some to be hesitant about rebuilding efforts. Trump has claimed that this board will focus on peace and ending the war in Gaza, but has neglected to mention any details in the Board of Peace meeting as to how he plans to do that. The talks during the meeting were mainly about finances and rebuilding Gaza.

What is the United Nations?

The United Nations is an international peace and collaboration organization with over 190 member countries. This organization is responsible for working towards world peace and resolving international conflicts. The UN addresses issues not only regarding aggression, but a wide variety of problems such as world hunger, poverty, education, and access to clean water.

“The United Nations (UN) is an international organization which was formed in 1945 after the end of World War Two with the aim of maintaining international peace.”

An important aspect of the U.N. is the United Nations Security Council. This council is responsible for determining and mitigating threats to peace. It also provides recommendations to solve conflicts or issues of aggression. The U.N. Security Council has many powers, including imposing sanctions or using force to maintain international peace.

The U.N. Security Council also approved the creation of the Board of Peace. However, the Council only approved the Board of organizing reconstruction efforts of Gaza, not creating retaliation plans or future governance.

Is the Board of Peace challenging the United Nations?

The Board of Peace and The United Nations have very similar goals. The United Nations has been established for many years and has an impressive membership total. However, a lot of what the Board of Peace stands for seems to almost rival the U.N. despite its global standing.

The Board of Peace, in its initial development, would not challenge the U.N. However, the way Trump is talking about expanding the Board, this might change. Even though the Board of Peace was established and approved as an organization to help stop the conflict in Gaza, Trump has bigger plans. Trump stated, “I think it’s going to go far beyond Gaza… I think it’ll be based all over.” This statement shows that Trump is planning on making the Board of Peace and an international endeavor, solving conflict not just in Gaza but around the world.

When creating the Board of Peace, Trump also said many things about the United Nations. Trump historically has called the United Nations ineffective and claims it pushes a “woke” ideology. After the establishment of the Board of Peace, Trump stated, “The Board of Peace is going to be looking over the United Nations and making sure it runs properly.” While this statement is diminishing the U.N.’s standing, Trump has also stated, “We’re going to make sure the United Nations is viable,” and to “help them, moneywise.” Trump’s comments on the United Nations further emphasize the complex dynamic between the U.N. and the Board of Peace.

The Board of Peace has also already created issues for the United Nations. The U.N. Security Council had planned a meeting to talk about the conflict in Gaza and possible peace deals. However, this meeting was moved because Trump hosted the first Board of Peace meeting on the same day. What seems like a petty conflict between the two organizations now could lead to further division in the future.

What are officials saying?

Despite the growing concern of the Board of Peace challenging the U.N., some officials have dismissed this concern. The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, stated, “Many in Europe say the Board of Peace is meant to substitute the U.N. It does not look to me like an attempt to replace the U.N., but if it helps shake that agonizing giant and inshallah wake it up, then God bless the Board of Peace.” The Prime Minister’s statement not only minimizes the concern of the U.N. and Board of Peace rivaling, but also acknowledges the inefficiency of the U.N. that Trump has previously mentioned.

Overall, it is not certain if the Board of Peace is truly challenging the United Nations in its early stages. However, because of the framework set by President Trump, it is very likely that the Board of Peace may try to overshadow the United Nations in the future. If the Board of Peace does end up giving itself many of the same authorities of the U.N., this could have dire consequences on global peace organizations.

The future of global peace organizations

The Board of Peace has been the first real threat to the U.N.’s authority on peacekeeping and security solutions. If the Board of Peace continues to grow in power and expand outside of Gaza, there may be consequences in the way global peace is handled.

Having two separate global peace organizations with similar power can create conflict between the two. One organization may not agree with the other’s policy, or do something that actively goes against it. Since they are both individual global entities, nothing would be able to stop this from happening. It would cause more division within global politics and could potentially create more conflicts rather than solving them.

It is also a matter of resources. If there are two organizations with similar membership groups and goals, resources and funding provided by those members will be divided between the two organizations. This will create an inefficient division of resources and could potentially reduce funding where it is needed most.

The future of global peace organizations is uncertain, but if the powers of the Board of Peace continue to grow, there will be division and contention. The world needs effective peace-building organizations, but these efforts need to be unified in order to work.
