White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused the network of refusing to cover Trump's event honoring families of victims killed by undocumented immigrants
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to social media to criticize CNN.
The 28-year-old posted on X, writing, "@CNN is a total disgrace." Karoline's tirade was directed at the news network, which she alleges "refused" to cover an event hosted by Donald Trump on February 23, prior to the president's first State of the Union address of the year.
Karoline, along with other Trump supporters, frequently labels CNN as "fake news." On February 20, the president lashed out at a CNN reporter following the Supreme Court's ruling on Trump's tariffs, chastising the journalist and declaring, "I don't talk to CNN. It's fake news."

Karoline, who is currently pregnant with her second child, continued, "President Trump hosted a powerful event honoring Angel Families who lost loved ones at the hands of illegal alien criminals and deadly drugs – but CNN refused to cover EVEN one second of it."
The event centered on the families of individuals who were attacked or killed by someone who was also undocumented, including a 22-year-old woman from Georgia named Laken Riley, whose name Trump has been promoting as part of the DHS's ongoing immigration crackdown, reports the Mirror US.
The Laken Riley Act, which was signed into law by Trump on January 29, 2025, mandates federal detention of illegal immigrants arrested for burglary or theft.
The White House representative continued, "That's because CNN doesn't care about the victims of illegal alien crime. They pretend to be a news organization, but they refuse to cover anything that doesn't fit the Left's narrative." She concluded, "This is why CNN is failing and losing all of their viewership."
During the event, the 79-year-old president rambled at the podium, seizing the opportunity to criticize his political adversaries and promote his anti-immigration stance.
Trump even blamed former President Joe Biden and his administration for the deaths of the 62 individuals being honored at the ceremony. He vented about the 2020 election, alleging it was "rigged by millions of votes."
He stated, "We did great in that election. If that election wasn't rigged, every single one of the people in this room would not be here. You'd be home with your son, daughter, family."
The vigil, broadcast live from the White House, was characterized as a "solemn ceremony that reminds us all of why deportations of the worst of the worst must continue."
In response, an official spokesperson for CNN told Irish Star, "At the time of the White House event, CNN was covering the breaking news around the historic blizzard impacting millions of Americans."
