Shreveport resident Justin Chadwick Butler was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury following an investigation into online threats concerning Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and others.

Butler, 31, was arrested Feb. 13 at his residence on Dixie-Blanchard Road, and a representative of the U.S. Secret Service testified five days later at a hearing in Shreveport as to the allegations.

Court documents claim Butler posted threats online — particularly on Facebook — suggesting violence against Johnson multiple times. His posts also referenced Pres. Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the prosecution, Butler admitted posting the comments to his Facebook page. Among the many were suggestions that Johnson and other "traitors" be shot in the face. He also posted the hope he would see "lots of dead ICE agents...soon."

“Threats against public officials and our nation’s leaders are threats to our democracy and our American way of life, and we will not tolerate them,” U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller said. “For those who would use the mask of internet anonymity to threaten others, the message here is clear: our many state and federal law enforcement partners will track you down, and you will face justice.”
