Trump calls for ‘Deranged Jack Smith’ to be ‘brought to Justice, NOW!!!’

President Donald Trump again called for retribution against Jack Smith, the former special counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) who led two criminal investigations against the president.

“Deranged Jack Smith should be brought to Justice, NOW!!!” Trump wrote in a midnight post on Truth Social Tuesday.

The post featured a clip from Smith’s public congressional hearing before the House Judiciary Committee in January and a screenshot of a social media user commenting “LOCK HIM UP.!!!” It was one of three posts of the footage that Trump published that evening.

In that hearing, Smith told lawmakers that he believed that the DOJ would eventually “do everything in their power” to prosecute him based on orders from Trump.

The former special counsel also warned that Trump’s ongoing attacks on civil servants previously assigned to probes against him represented an assault on the rule of law.

As Smith was testifying, Trump called him “a deranged animal” in a post on social media and said that he hoped that Attorney General Pam Bondi was “looking at what he’s done.”

It wasn’t the first time Trump had publicly called on the DOJ to go after Smith.

In the Oval Office last year, Trump called Smith a “criminal” and said he hoped someone would “look into” him. The message was clearly intended for Bondi, who was standing next to the president.

The president’s renewed attack against Smith came just over a week after a Trump-appointed federal judge permanently barred the DOJ from releasing Smith’s final report on Trump’s mishandling of government records, including classified documents, after his first term.
