This is in response to Mr. Stu Lindberg’s call to pass the SAVE Act, and why it shouldn’t be.

The Brennan Center for Justice at the NYU Law School, VoteRiders, Center for Democracy & Civic Engagement, University of Maryland, and Public Wise 2023 survey indicated 9% of voting age citizens, 21.3 million people, would be pressed to provide proof of citizenship; 21.3 million eligible voters would not be able to vote. Reasons are varied: married females, lower income, overseas military, people of color, et al.

The Heritage Foundation, a far-right group who authored Project 2025 and supports the SAVE Act, set out to prove massive voter fraud. They conducted an investigation covering 1982 to 2025. Over 43 years, 5 billion votes were cast. They found only 68 were cast by noncitizens. It means 1.6 instances per year of fraudulent voting. As a percentage, it comes to 0.00000136%.

Trump erroneously claims 2020 voter fraud, which the courts said did not happen. He keeps spreading this lie, projecting it onto future elections. Trump is afraid Republicans will face defeat in upcoming elections. Trump wants to reduce the number of eligible voters. Speaker Johnson and fellow Republicans join him seeing the SAVE Act getting it done.

The SAVE Act proposes to address voter fraud. Having defined the problem as a mere 1.6 fraudulent votes per election it is proposed the SAVE Act will resolve this virtually nonexistent problem by causing 21.3 million citizens to lose their constitutional right to vote. The act’s goal clearly is to eliminate voters. It cannot be allowed to happen.

Ironically, the Heritage Foundation study proves our present voter registration procedures are secure and allow every eligible American the opportunity to register and vote. And most importantly, they prove there is no need for the SAVE Act.
