White House Fires Back After Marjorie Taylor Greene Predicts 'End of MAGA' - Newsweek
Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized President Trump’s foreign policy, predicting the "end of MAGA" due to his alleged shift toward neoconservative positions and potential involvement in a war with Iran. The White House responded by dismissing her as a former congresswoman and traitor. Greene has previously supported an "America First" approach and expressed concern over potential conflicts with Iran and support for Israel's actions in Gaza.
The White House fired back on Thursday after former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene predicted the “end of MAGA” in a social media post criticizing President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.
Why It Matters
Greene, who resigned from her Georgia congressional district earlier this year, was once among the most vocal Trump supporters in the Republican Party. She campaigned alongside him ahead of his 2024 election and backed his policies on a range of issues including immigration and the economy. But she has become an increasingly vocal critic of the president over the past year amid frustration with his administration on matters of foreign policy and its handling of the Epstein files.
What To Know
Greene on Thursday shared a post on X criticizing the Trump administration’s positioning on foreign policy
“This is the Trump I supported, the man who called out the truth about the WMD in Iraq and declared NO MORE FOREIGN WARS. Now for some unknown reason, Trump has joined the neocons and will soon go to war against Iran with the same BS excuses. End of MAGA,” she wrote.
The post included a video of Trump from a debate in the 2016 GOP primary in which he criticized the Iraq War.

“We spent $2 trillion, thousands of lives. We don’t even have it. Iran is taking over Iraq with the second-largest oil reserves in the world. Obviously it was a mistake. George Bush made a mistake. We can make mistakes. But that one was a beauty. We should have never been in Iraq,” he said at the time.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded to Greene in a statement to Newsweek on Thursday.
“President Trump is the unequivocal leader of the Republican party," he wrote. "Marjorie Taylor Greene is a former congresswoman, traitor, and a quitter.”
How Foreign Policy Became Sticking Point
Greene has broken with Trump on foreign policy matters. She has embraced what she calls an “America First” approach to foreign policy and voiced support for Trump’s promises of not entering new wars that do not directly benefit the interests of Americans.
In May 2025, Greene warned on X that she was “frustrated and upset over the direction of things” amid concerns about a potential war with Iran. She warned that Trump was at risk of losing the MAGA base if he did not keep that promise. At the same time, she denied any feud with Trump.
In June, she said that Trump was turning his back on campaign promises after the U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran.
She has also broken with the administration on its support for Israel. She became the first elected Republican official to call its actions in the Gaza Strip a genocide in August.
“The innocent people in Gaza did not kill and kidnap the innocent people in Israel on Oct 7th," she wrote on X. "Just as we spoke out and had compassion for the victims and families of Oct 7, how can Americans not speak out and have compassion for the masses of innocent people and children in Gaza? Is one type of innocent life worthy and another type of innocent life worth nothing?”
What People Are Saying
*Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, on X on February 17: *“The WH and Republicans are meeting trying to figure out messaging going into midterms and SOTU next week. If you had put America FIRST from the start, instead of your rich donor class and foreign policy, you wouldn’t have to strategize on how to gaslight Americans.”
*President Donald Trump, on Truth Social in December: *"The only reason Marjorie “Traitor” Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!). Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple! Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person.”
What Happens Next
A special election to fill Greene's congressional seat will be held on March 10.
