Wisconsin democrats comment on Vance’s visit to Plover

PLOVER, Wis. (WEAU) - Wisconsin democrats responded to Vice President J.D. Vance visiting Plover Thursday with a virtual press meeting, inviting local lawmakers and community members.

Those in attendance were Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Sachin Shivaram, Owner of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry, Kyle LaFond, Owner Founder of American Provenance and Natural Contract Manufacturing and Sarah Godlewski, WisDems Vice-Chair.

Democrats commented on this summer’s Big Beautiful Bill. They say it took away healthcare from thousands of Wisconsinites.

“We saw over the summer how Donald Trump and J.D. Vance and Derek Van Orden supported the big, beautiful bill, which took away health care from thousands of Wisconsinites. And here in Western Wisconsin, we’re feeling it. They are seeing how rural clinics and hospitals are being shut down,” said Godlewski.

Lawmakers spoke with local small business owners who discussed the impacts of federal policy on their livelihood.

“So, the fact that J.D. Vance is here in Wisconsin today, it’s not in support of businesses like mine. It’s basically to continue to tout this administration and extend the lies that they’ve been sharing for the past year and a half. So, one of the things that I’ve also shared with folks is tariffs. They do more harm than most folks realize,” said LaFond.

Baldwin commented on the administration and how their policies are affecting Wisconsinites.

“I think it’s a good thing that Vice President Vance is coming to Wisconsin today so he can see exactly how this administration’s policies are affecting, and in many cases, harming Wisconsinites,” said Baldwin.

“Wisconsinites are really struggling, and they deserve independent leadership and not somebody who’s simply a rubber stamp. So, I’m going to say welcome to Wisconsin, Mr. Vice President. And while you’re here, I really hope that you will listen to the people who feel like they’ve been left behind by your administration,” said Baldwin.

The Vice President’s visit marks the first of many likely high-profile stops in the Badger state as we get closer to election day.
